10 Facts on Exchange Systems and Economics in the USA for a Presentation
10 Facts on Exchange Systems and Economics in the USA for a Presentation In order to fully discuss exchange systems and economics in the United States, it is important to fully understand what each factor represents and how they work together to influence monetary policies in a community. So here are a few definitions to get us started on the right path. Exchange Systems in their simplest form are the different ways in which consumers connect with producers. These different ways may include barter, or the use of money as a purchasing tool to acquire items and in the United States, money serves as that means of exchange. While economics can simply be defined as the social science that describes the factors that determine the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Therefore, this article will be providing some accurate facts on the exchange system and its effect on the economic and monetary policies in the US. Widespread use of the US Dollar: the United States reputation as the most influential nation on earth is also shared by its money as can be seen by the following statistics. The US Dollar is the currency mostly used in international transactions and it also serves as the worldââ¬â¢s primary reserve currency. While the one dollar bill is the most circulated bill locally in the US. It makes up 48% of the paper bills printed by the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The US chosen exchange rate system is the floating rate exchange system. This means that the amount in which the Dollar trades for when compared to gold is set by market forces to a large extent. The US started using the managed floating exchange rate system in 1973 after the Bretton Woods fixed rate system became untenable and harmful to the US economy. The United States trade partners: an economy is reliant on its imports and exports which in turn becomes a factor that determines the exchange rate of that country. So here are the USs trade statistics: A 2014 survey puts China at the top of the pyramid of countries the United States imports from. The US imports approximately 66 billion worth goods annually from China. While Canada ranks at the top of the export list for the United States exports approximately 46 billion worth goods on a yearly basis to Canadians. The United States most traded commodities: in terms of importation, crude oil takes the lead as the most imported good coming into the US while domestic items are a close second. In 2014, the US spent close to $300billion dollars on importing crude oil and it is important to note that a large percentage of these imports were from Canada. Unsurprisingly, Americas biggest export quantifiable in dollars are also crude oil products which brings in approximately $130billion a year. America is a service based economy: the US tops the world in providing private services across diverse industry nichesfinance, insurance, telecoms etc.extensively. Travel services nets the US approximately $50 billion yearly, royalty and licensing approximately $100billion while patents come after oil products at $100billion. The US debt profile: every nation has its debt due to international economics and the need to raise money for wars, domestic growth etc. and the US is no different. Approximately 45 years ago in 1970, the total US debt both home and abroad including business debt, government debt and consumer debt was approximately $2trillion. Today, the total US debt is just over $20 trillion. In 2011, the US paid $454 billion dollars on interest alone servicing its debts. This was the highest fee paid as of 2014. The United States Economy and the World: the US status as one of the most developed countries in the world means that fluctuation in its economy also affects world economics. In 2001, the United States GDP accounted for 32% of all global economic activity which goes to show its influence. And despite the recession, in 2013, the US GDP still accounted for approximately 22% of all global activities. The Economy and the American household: everyone knows about the American dream of been able to comfortably take care of ones family in order to live happily ever after. But do the statistics back this dream? In 2013, statistics showed that approximately 20% of households with breadwinners under the age of 35 lived in poverty. 40% of Americans live in a home were a member is dependent on one or more government programs for monetary support. The US government runs 83 diverse welfare programs and approximately 33% of the US population participate in at least one of these programs. The Economy and US social security benefits: the number of people on social security benefits also plays its part in affecting the US economy due to their reliance on it. 2015 data shows approximately 58 million Americans dependent on social security and predictive analysis put the 2035 numbers at 91 million citizens. Also, the social security system is expected to face a $130trillion shortfall over the next 3 years. The wealth demographic: the wealth spread among citizens in the US also plays a part in telling the story of the US economy. The 20 wealthiest Americans are credited to have more wealth than the poorest 152 million US citizens. The top 0.1 percent possess wealth which is more than the combined wealth of the bottom 90% of all Americans combined. These are some of the interesting facts on the exchange system and economics in the US which you can put to use in your own essay concerning the economy. The facts places emphasis on the US currency, exchange system, trade partners and economic state of its local people. HRM and Organizational Turnaround at Selfridges & Co Coursework - 1
HRM and Organizational Turnaround at Selfridges & Co - Coursework Example This paper illustrates that the Selfridges à ¡ompany was originally a part of the ââ¬ËSears Groupââ¬â¢ and was described as the personification of another organization called Grace Brothers after acquiring of an old-fashioned, stuffy image in 1980 and 1990s. However, the organization failed to grow stronger because of the lack of logistics support, lack of knowledge about supply chain relationships, minimum use of technology and an extremely hierarchical and complicated organizational structure. The company underwent rapid transformation since 1990 when the new chief executive Vittorio Radice was born. With this, the original management team was replaced by a new senior management team. This management team was responsible for the creation and implementation of new HR practices and policies which will be discussed in the project. Special emphasis would be provided with regards to the management and leadership styles in Selfridges and the role played by the team leaders of the organization for making it successful. Selfridges was established in the Oxford Street on the 15th of March, 1909 with the focus on department stores and retailing institutions. The history of the company is unique because of the history and background of the company. It began as a small shop which was designed to become a departmental store. The organizational culture of the company was such where decisions were primarily taken by the management and leaders; however, they were designed to bring the maximum benefit to the employees. The company had the vision of emerging as the most exciting and best chain of departmental stores in Europe. This would be done by meeting the requirements and needs of customers through the delivery of the best quality of services and the development of the maximum operational efficiency. HR policies and procedures at Trafford Parks Recruitment At Trafford Park, the maximum responsibility, and authority were provided to the HR department. They even had the complete autonomy to create its own HR policies and procedures. The opening of the store was done with the recruitment of 650 numbers of staff and their training as well. Candidates were recruited on the basis of their knowledge about the companyââ¬â¢s product and their abilities to create a relationship with their customers and building bonds with them by gaining their loyalty. Candidates with experience in retail were recruited. However, very few of the candidates were transferred from London. A critical analysis of the situation reveals that the recruitment procedure was not sound as many people were not able or willing to adapt to the new human resource procedures in the organization. It is important that the recruitment procedure is sound in order to ensure that the right kind of staff is selected who can contribute to the organization effectively.

To identify an innovative human resource management practice or Essay
To identify an innovative human resource management practice or program - Essay Example The work that follows highlights problems solved by giving compensation and benefits to employees and its importance. Issues addressed by compensation and benefits Benefits and compensation are some of the important methods of motivating workers in an organization or a company. Due to high competition in the job market, employers seek to maintain their employees (Grobler 24). The award of benefits and compensation by employers to their employees saves them a number of problems. First, it saves the organization loss of employees because an employee cannot go for another job (Sims 458). A company that lacks good motivation to its employees will always look for more employees to replace those that have left the company due to unfavorable working conditions. An employee will always admire to work under better terms of service. Secondly, it saves poor production. This is because there will be enough workforce for the particular fields in the organization. Poor production will only result in an organization where there is no recognition on the importance of the work done by employees (Kleynhans 59). It is only that organization that gives motivation to its workers through giving benefits and compensation that will succeed it solving this problem. Poor production leads to poor achievement or profits. Poor quality of the products will always lead to poor sales in the market. This also leads to high losses incurred by the organization due to lack of recovery of the expenses incurred in the production process after sales (WorldatWork 451). Thirdly, it reduces competition on the companyââ¬â¢s products (Kleynhans 35). If the employees leave and have the ability to start their own companies, they will, and this will give competition to the organization from which formerly employed them. If the employees are unable to start their companies, they will look for employment in other companies in the same field, which offer better terms of service. Due to the increased demand for labor force, the workers prefer the company that offers fair terms (Grobler 85). This promotes production due to enough workforce and motivated workers. Compensation and benefits saves a company of bad reputation. For example if an organization abruptly terminates a workerââ¬â¢s employment is and there is no compensation, definitely, the worker would not be happy with the treat given. This tarnishes the organizationââ¬â¢s name, and as long as employers still flock the market looking for employment, they will not wish to work in an organization that treats workers unfairly. Reputation is a virtue that is very vital in the business line. If the is spoilt, the organization goes on low production due to lack of workers (Kleynhans 237). Compensations also save a company from court cases. Court cases emerge for instance when an injury occurs to an employee in the line of duty and no compensation. The worker may look for a personal lawyer and sue the company to court (Grobler 88) . On the contrary, if the company awards compensation to workers incase of emergencies like these, the program will save the company time, because of all the processes undergone in processing the cases and pursuing them in court and saves finances accompanying the court cases. Suing a company in court leads to decline in the production progress, as many activities will slow down due to lack of the personnel involved in the process, and the finances used in processing the

African Americans jazz Essay Example for Free
African Americans jazz Essay Many believe that jazz is a music that African Americans played together with the Creole musicians during the 19th century in New Orleans, Louisiana in United States that bind the race together, black and white Americans. This is also considered as the ancient and most distinguished musical genres in North America and known as ââ¬Å"Americaââ¬â¢s classical music. â⬠Based from the quote of Gerald Early, a lecturer and a writer of African ââ¬â American studies, he emphasizes that America will be known from three things: in the Constitution, sports (baseball), and in jazz music, since these are the most captivating things that they developed. Jazz is a type of lyricism that reflects on the Great American promise and expresses hope for freedom in slavery. It is also illustrated by the exceptional attribute of collective improvisation and should be performed with the right feelings about it. According to Louis Armstrong if you will ask, youââ¬â¢ll never know. He discovers the secret behind the jazz music, thatââ¬â¢s why he became known as one of the successful musicians and leading stars in the whole world. The early jazz musicians create a great impact to the life of many as they change their point of view towards music. Although, jazz music is originated from the black, who are considered outsider but living in America, wherein they use this as a passage to be accepted in the society, still America truly owns this music. I prove it accurate because the New Orleans jazz musicians improve, develop, and patronize this music until the whole world has known it. One more thing, jazz has a big role to the history of America. This music becomes the expression of freedom because way back in 1970, it played a major role in the life of African American culture. Their longing for freedom is emphasized as they sing. I also believe that jazz eliminates the discrimination between the white and black people, thatââ¬â¢s why I strongly agree that jazz belongs to America because the whole history of this country is the song itself. The history of jazz is deeply rooted in America and until now the musical tradition lives here. A Brief History of the Hybrid Vehicle Essay -- essays research papers
Brief History of Hybrid Vehicle Development First built in the early 1900s by inventors tinkering with combinations of the electric motor and the gasoline engine, hybrid vehicles were dropped when gasoline-fueled vehicles became more reliable and easier to start, and gasoline fuel more readily available. Research and development of hybrid vehicles was revived by concern about oil dependency in the1970s and about air pollution in the late 1980s. A number of hybrid vehicles have been built and tested since 1980. Some of these vehicles have impressed analysts with their performance and low levels of exhaust and petroleum consumption. Interest in hybrid vehicles jumped in late 1993 with the announcement of funding for two major collaborations. The US Department of Energy signed a five-year, $138 million development agreement with General Motors and a $122 million agreement with Ford to design and build preproduction hybrid prototypes that could be marketed in less than 10 years.[1] All these were done because hybrid electric vehicles are expected to be the future of vehicles worldwide. Definition One considers a vehicle to be a hybrid when it combines two or more sources of power. For example, a mo-ped (a motorized pedal bike) is a hybrid because it combines the power of a gasoline engine with the pedal power of its rider. Similarly, the gasoline-electric hybrid car is a combination of both an electric car and a gasoline-powered one. That is, it makes use of both electricity and gasoline to provide the energy to turn the wheels of the car. Figure 1 shows a gas-powered car. [2] Components Of A Gasoline Powered Car The 4-cylinder engine converts gasoline into motion so that the car can move. The easiest way it does this is to burn the gasoline inside the engine. Therefore is acts as an internal combustion engine i.e. combustion takes place internally. Gasoline powered car engines typically have over 100 horsepower and operate at speeds up to 8000 RPM. The fuel tank stores and supplies gasoline to the engine. It can typically store enough fuel to provide the engine with energy capable of moving the car through a distance of 300 miles or more. Figure 2 below shows an electric car, which has a set of batteries that provides electricity to an electric motor. The motor turns a transmission, and the transmission turns the wheels. Change in Male Role in the Home: 1960-Present
Change in Male Role in the Home: 1960-Present Traditionally the United States, along with the majority of the world has been a patriarchal society. The customary male role, specifically in relation to the home, has been the head of the household, the protector, and the provider. A maleââ¬â¢s duty was unquestionably embodied in these three ideas, until the 1970ââ¬â¢s. The growing feminist movement of that time began to question and displace these roles as solely belonging to a man, and the male role in society slowly began to shift.Instead of being the sole breadwinner for his home, families with two working parents have become increasingly more common. Women in the workforce have allowed fatherââ¬â¢s to spend more time at home with their children and helping out around the house. Over the last 50 years the male role has changed drastically, and while not all of the changes that have taken place are bad, the overall effect of these changes on society has been a negative one, creating a generation of fatherlessness, increased crime, and a general lack of respect for authority in any form. For generations it has been a manââ¬â¢s responsibility to provide for his family. Women were rarely even accepted into the workforce until after WWII. However, government encouragement for women to enter the labor force during the war, in combination with the rising feminist movement started a tidal wave movement of women pursuing higher education and careers. Women currently make up the majority of the workforce and 60% of all college graduates (Rosin). Donnalyn Pompper, a professor at Temple University, expands on this further in her article about the masculine gender role conflict theory. She explains that that after WWII, the increased female presence in the labor force ââ¬Å"destabilized the breadwinner role as a basis for male identity, and now men must accept working wives and a more active parental roleâ⬠(Pompper). And while it is true that the shift to equal opportunity in the workforce is almost universally agreed upon as a positive change, the balance and delicateness of the male psyche and ego are seldom taken into consideration. For many men, the ability to provide for oneââ¬â¢s family is an integral part of the definition of masculinity. In interviews conducted by Dr. Pompper, when asked to individually define masculinity, a reoccurring theme in both the younger and older men interviewed was the ability to provide for oneââ¬â¢s family. One of the young men interviewed said, ââ¬Å"Being masculine means you are able to look at your wife and say ââ¬ËI got thisââ¬â¢. To be able to look at your kids and say ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ve got youââ¬â¢. That to me is the epitome of masculinityâ⬠¦being able, at the end of the day, to look at your family and say, ââ¬Ëget on my back, Iââ¬â¢ve got you the rest of the wayââ¬â¢. Another man expressed similar feelings and said, ââ¬Å"I think that every guy feels like itâ⠬â¢s his place not to be the stay home Dadâ⬠(Pompper). Even in todayââ¬â¢s forward thinking society, men are wired to be the provider. To take that role completely away is emasculating to him and leaves him feeling like he is unnecessary in the home. Although a family where, either both parents, or just the mother provide financially may be a little tough on the male ego, it is not detrimental. Provider is not the only established male role, protector and ââ¬Ëhead of the houseââ¬â¢ are equally important to the equation. The traditional man of the 1960ââ¬â¢s was indisputably the head of his home. There was a clear hierarchy, and while the husband and wife still often worked as a team, the culture of the time dictated that a man was undeniably in charge of his home, and his family. In many ways, this has been one of the most distinct changes between the 1960ââ¬â¢s and 2012. Because men are no longer the sole breadwinner for their home, they are required to spend a larger portion of their time taking an active role in the home. No longer is the kitchen and house exclusively a womanââ¬â¢s domain, but rather shared by both parties.Men are expected to help out around the house and with the children, as much as women are. The idea of ââ¬Å"team parentingâ⬠has evolved and taken root in todayââ¬â¢s society, and has had excellent outcomes. Research has shown that children who are raised by two parents (a mother and a father specifically) have greater cognitive ability and success rates than children whose fathers are absent or uninvolved (Hofferth). This style of parents working together as a team to raise their children has been a great strategy, but looking at the big picture, it is shown that ââ¬Å"Team parentingâ⬠has also unknowingly created some problems.Studies have shown that a childââ¬â¢s success throughout their life is largely dependent on the structure of their childhood (Hofferth). Given that menââ¬â¢s taking a more proactive role in the home and in the lives of their children is a good thing, the way that it has been approached has been problematic because it has undermined the hierarchy of the home. Similar to a manââ¬â¢s need to be the provider is the need to be the protector of his home. In addition, a man is not the only one who craves a distinctive hierarchy in the home, so do the children. According to Dr. David Bjorklund and Dr.Anthony Pellegrini, children need a clear authority figure. Often times by approaching parenting as a team and as equals, the mother and father undermine each otherââ¬â¢s authority (Bjorklund, Pellegrini). Furthermore, without a specific and defined role, the position of father has been diminished as unimportant. For generations men have been noted as head of the house, and hailed for that important position. However, without that distinct role to play, it begins to seem like theyââ¬â¢re participation is unnecessary as their wife is obviously much better suited to caring for and developing relationship with a child. These personal misgivings in combination with the media reinforcing the idea that the father role is superfluous, are huge contributors to why more and more fatherlessness is becoming the social epidemic of the generation (Pompper). This is an important issue that needs to be addressed, because Fathers are vital to the family unit. In their article about the role of fathers in childrenââ¬â¢s development, Amanda Quesenberry M. Ed. , Michaelene M. Ostrosky Ph. D. , and Robert Corso Ph. D. , note ââ¬Å"Fathers are critical members of the family system who influence their children and their families in unique waysâ⬠(Quesenberry, Ostrosky, Corso). The article states that even in todayââ¬â¢s society, fatherââ¬â¢s hold a huge amount of influence over society, enough that their presence and involvement is necessary to not only the success of the family as a unit, but also to the individual children. However, since the importance of fathers and fatherhood has not been stressed, and in fact the opposite has been emphasized, approximately one out of every 3 children does not have an active father or father figure in their lives (Hofferth). Acceptance and affection from a father or father figure is vital to a childââ¬â¢s cognitive development, and recent statistics how that behavioral problems among children, adolescents, and young adults with no active father in their lives are far greater than those of children living with both a father and a mother (Quesenberry, Ostrosky, Corso), and also tend to deal with one or more of the following issues: personality and psychological adjustment problems, behavioral problems (including aggression towards people and animals, property destruction, deceitfulness, and theft), delinquency, and psychopathology (substance abuse, depression) (Rohner). The rate of violent crimes have gone up roughly 300% since the 1960ââ¬â¢s, and of the juveniles who ha ve been incarcerated for serious crimes 70% of them have been raised with no real father figure. In addition, 70% of all girls who become pregnant were raised without fathers (Lykken). These alarming numbers demonstrate the profound effect a father can have on the development, and therefore future of a child. The final issue that has come out of maleââ¬â¢s displacement from his traditional roles is a generation with no respect for authority. Teachers are having increasing difficulties with classroom control.Students no longer have it ingrained in them to respect their elders, and as a result donââ¬â¢t care what the teacher or the principal say. Because school is no longer a priority to students like this, the drop out rate has increased significantly, with just over half of all dropouts being fatherless (Lykken). In todayââ¬â¢s economy, it is next to impossible to find a job without at least a high school diploma, and employers no longer have to put up with any employee who cannot do what they are told, because there is someone who would be happy to take their place who most likely has more experience or education and can do what they are told.To conclude, while equal opportunity is beneficial and has helped to move our society forward, it has also drastically changed the traditional male role. And while some of these changes are good ones, they unfortunately have had negative effects due to peopleââ¬â¢s ignorance of the possible consequences. For example, it is good that women have been able to pursue their goals and passions in the workforce, and it is good that men are able to help out more at home. However, what is not good is that men have become completely displaced from many of the roles that, to them, define them as men.The way their roles have changed has slowly and subconsciously emasculated and caused them to doubt their importance and purpose in the family unit, which in turn has led to a growing number of fatherless children, increased crime rate, and a lack of respect for any kind of authority. Change in Male Role in the Home: 1960-Present Change in Male Role in the Home: 1960-Present Traditionally the United States, along with the majority of the world has been a patriarchal society. The Documentary Hypothesis A Composite Of Four Separate,...
The documentary hypothesis is a composite of four separate, complete, and coherent documents in the Torah. These four documents are the Yahwist, the Elohist, the Priestly, and the book of Deuteronomy. The documentary hypothesis was developed in the 18th and 19th century in hopes of being able to bring together some inconsistencies within biblical text. Each document deals with the same incidents and characters, but with different messages. The Yahwist source is said to be the oldest source out of the four. The date of its composition goes back to 950 BCE, which is shortly before the split of United Kingdom of Israel into Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Southern Kingdom of Judah. This specific source applies human characteristics, or personification, to Yahweh, the national god of the kingdom of Israel and Judah. The Yahwist source mainly recounts the history of religious theory. It begins with the story of Genesis, which explains the creation human beings and other living things. Along with the story of Genesis it explains the importance of human mortality, the need to work for a living, the existence of many languages, and manââ¬â¢s attempt to betray Godââ¬â¢s limits. The main focus of the Yahwist source is the first time mankind came onto Earth and the connection he had with what Earth offered him. It states that man comes from soil because man needs the resources offered by Earth to survive.
